Print media became obsessed with clicks and readthru’s as actual paper daily sales dropped and the internet stole advertising. So too, we’re in a click, clap and readthru world on Medium. But the engagement aspect of this platform seems to be a growth/reward system that newspapers lack. I enjoy the community interaction with like minds and/or those who come from diverse backgrounds. Medium reminds me of the “party line” telephone service when I was very young. You could carefully lift the receiver without making a telltale click and hear what others were chatting about. That was considered socially unacceptable, but it’s encouraged here, with clear boundaries of taste and propriety. We’re coming full circle.
